Short story: This place is awful and I do not recommend it based upon an experience in which I was badly burned and the interactions with the owner that followed the incident. My story: I was going to Jamaica for my honeymoon and wanted to build up a base tan so that I was less likely to get burned. I went here and signed up for 1 set of 'buy 3 sessions get 1 free" on the level 2. First time I went in for half of the maximum time and it went pretty well. Over the next three sessions I slowly increased the duration by 2 minutes. After that set was complete I went in to pay for another set. Since I was fairly pleased with the first, I wanted to try upgrading to Level 3; the first time I had come in the girl at the counter had said that the bulbs used in the Level 3 beds were bronzing instead of burning and overall better for you. The girl that was there this time asked if I wanted to go in for the full amount of time. I said that I didn't know how Level 2 correlated to Level 3 and told her how much time I had been doing on Level 2. She said I should be fine going in for the full duration. She was wrong, and I was badly burned. When I return to the 'spa' to request a refund for the remaining sessions I paid for and had no intention of using the girl (same one responsible for me being burned) told me that they don't do refunds. So I requested the name and contact information of her supervisor. She gives me the name and number of the owner. Over the next 2 weeks the owner and I played telephone tag since he is, as has been stated in another review, "very hard to get a hold of." I finally reach him and explain what happened. He basically says that he thinks I'm lying to him because he can't understand how I got burned in a Level 3 bed for one thing. And wonders why I didn't finish out the full duration of the level 2 (even though he agreed with me that the Level 3 beds are supposed to be better). He then tells me that he is unable to give me a refund, but he can give me another 'buy 3 get 1 free' set. Right. Because that's what I want. More opportunities to be burned. So I told him that I had no interest in returning to his place of business and hung up.

I think this place is awesome. If you don't know anything about tanning then get some more education before asking for a refund.

This tanning salon is by far one of the best. The girls at the front desk are always super helpful. I got married last March and was very nervous about tanning since it was my first time but the receptionist walked me through the process and I must say, my husband was EXTREMELY happy with the results! Goooo Shades!

I'm a Cal State Fullerton student and was handed a "1 week of tanning free" flyer on campus. I've tanned before but never at Shades. I don't know why i went any where else! The girls were so sweet, helpful, and genuine :) And, for as nice as the place is, it was really cheap! This is definitely my new tanning spot :)

One week tanning for free?? I'm down!

WOW. This place is awesome! I got a flyer from a girl on campus and went in and got a free week! After my week I was the first person to try one of the 5 bed promo things that they have.... its like i got to try all of their beds (5 different levels!!) The employee was super cool and tried to get me the best deal! i totally recommend this place to everyone! its totally different from all the other salons! go check it out!

I got an airbrush tan there the other day! it was absolutely perfect! it was for my wedding and i looked wonderful! No streaks or lines!! i will never do the mystic beds ever again! airbrushing is the way to go! ask for kelly she does an awesome job!

I love this place. It is the nicest, most cleanest tanning salon in the Fullerton/Brea area. The girls that work there are super helpful & Kelly does the most amazing airbrush tanning. I've gotten the spray tan done at the place on State College & Imperial & it doesn't even compare to what you're getting at Shades.

Shades Tanning Spa always provides excellent service and has quality beds. I am always greeted by a sweet receptionist and always feel welcome. The employees all know what they are doing so i never got burned. I also did an airbrush spray tan last week and loved it. i wouldn't go anywhere else.

My tanning experience was awesome!! I love Kelly. She does an amazing job. my tan was even and wasn't blotchy. Good Job

i go here whenever im trying to get tan... its really convienient and the employees are really friendly. only down side is its not really that cheap but the beds are nice, its super clean...i highly recommended it!!

This place is awesome. Its really relaxing is is worth the money. I highly recomend it, and hope each and every one of you get to check it out.
